There was something special about her... (Posted Aug 31 2005) Sherri Dairiki - Friend from Real World I wish I could say Julie is a dear friend, but she was merely an acquaintence. I remember a year ago when I first started coming to Real World, I met her and wanted to be her friend. Joy, happiness, care, love, and most importantly Christ flowed from her, and made her stand out as someone different and special from others. But I was scared to approach her, because I felt like everyone was always trying to talk to her and she wouldn't even remember me. As the year went by and I stopped attending Real World on a regular basis, I continued to see Julie involved in church activities, and wished I could get to know her better. One night at Real World, she spoke of her decision to go to Manila and requested support. As she spoke of her calling and struggle to get the point of response and trusting in Christ, I was touched and realized I was struggling to trust Christ with my life too. I wish I could tell Julie how her story had opened my eyes a bit more, and I thought about it but figured there wasn't any point since she would be leaving to Manila in a month. A week before she left I bumped into Julie at a restaurant in Cupertino with her family and she recognized me and I was so surprised. It meant a lot to me that she recognized me, and I remember thinking in my head that when she comes back from Manila I would make it a point to try to become a closer friend of hers and to get to know her better. I missed my chance here on Earth, but I wouldn't dream of missing it in Heaven... Julie, I can't wait to see you again. May God bless your family and friends as they go through this hard time. I know that I was in tears when I heard of the news so I can't imagine how hard this is for them to go through as they have known you through every trial and joy you've had. You've touched many people's hearts and I'm glad I'm one of them.
